Comments:
Hey fellow, "Gunfighters!" Where the hell have you been? This is a great site to get reconnected with old friends and past stories about "Rocket City." I was assigned to a load crew and worked the flightline the whole year that I was at DaNang. Yes, I remember G**dammit, do you remember F***it? Tripod? Poor dog, lost a leg to a 122mm....I remember those rocket attacks! Scary! I've got some great photo's of DaNang AB and would like to share them with you. Some photo's are of fellow 46250's and some maybe you. I was known as "Willie" and usually hung-out with Al Lopez, the crazy Hawaiian, and Richard Norris. Do you know where they are at? After returning to the states, I was assigned to SAC at March AFB. After a year in country at DaNang, and after 58 days in Riverside, I was sent TDY to Anderson AFB, Guam, to continue the bombing of North Vietnam. I think the operation was known as "Linebacker" where the Air Force would bomb the crap out of the North Vietnamese to bring them to the peace table....well, you know what happened with that...After 6 months TDY, I returned to March AFB where I separated in May 1974. I now live in San Diego....I hope to hear from any of you fellow "Gunfighters." Have a memorable Veteran's Day and God Bless all of you! William "Willie" Flores.....

If you remember me, send me an email. I was a member of Tent City, and got to move into the barracks just before a big rocket attack in 1967. During the attack, we had to use the SP bunker, cause our new location didn't have one. It was packed, but I DID get in.

Location:

Comments:
First tour Da Nang AB was pretty much "bare base". Lived in tents near the main gate (where BX was located. Moved to Camp Da Nang around Feb -Mar 67. New two story wooden baracks. Ate out of mess kits at the mess "tent" before mess hall was built. Returned in Aug 68 to a new base. Much larger, All four squadrons from the original 366th had been reunited. I had a brother flying RF4's for the Marines across the field. It was pretty unique to have two brothers in country at the same time, much less at the same base. If any former fuel hands see this drop me a line.

It is nice to see that some of us are still around. I was a dog handler for a few months and then I was assigned to CSC (central security control) the guy whose voice warned of incoming. I worked with Roger Barry and Allan Otts. We lived in Camp Swampy with a bunch of lizards and two dogs. I certainly hope that the soldiers coming home from Iraq don't have to go through what we did then and what we are going though now. Good Luck to you members of Rocket City.

Thanks! for keeping the "Gunfighters" going!! When working in Maint Control night shift we had many rocket attacks, but were safe with 3 ft. sand filled wood revetment. On return from TDY to PhuCat, I found all the sand in our revetment had washed away. Our protection was the bldg wall and two pieces of plywood. We had moved closer to the F-4s.

Pleas update my data. It has been a while since I've been here. Had trouble fining it recently. Then I had the recalled a lot of photos of Gunfighter Village so when I banged that into Google, bam! #1 on the hit list. Hope you are able to keep the site alive and perhaps help it grow. I find it hard to believe that so many Airmen must have been at Da Nang over the years that the US was involved it the conflict but so few people have signed up.

I would like to hear from anyone who worked in munitions during my tour at Danang. I'm looking for imformation about the Honeywell Fuses that blew up
under our aircraft during that time frame. We lost 12 aircraft to those fuses and 21 Pilots. One member of our squadron spent five years as a POW when
his bombs went off at release. Will share information with the right people who respond. Jack L. Drain

Would like to find some of the fellows I flew with. Roy Bollinger, Moody Suter, Doc Williams. Got to DaNang after TET because of a crash at Tucson, AZ in Dec. 1967. I think it was because of my crash I do not have the memory of my tour that I should. I had over 2,500 hours and still felt airsick! Major Brattain was my Flight Commander. Any info would be nice.

Can't believe I haven't met anyone in the outfit since I left. Everyone had to check in the orderly room at sometime during your tour. Maybe it was my office was in the back of the quonset hut, next to the Colonel's office, L/Col Frank Wurschenger. Besides who wanted to see the first sergeant anyway. I retied in 73, got a great job stealing cars for a bank as a repo man in Miami, Fl, got so good at they made me a VP. retired from banking in 1995. now live in Jensen Beach,Fl in a condo watching the boats go by when I'm not going to the post office for rent checks. What happened to you guys?

Would like to hear from anyone who remembers me. I worked in the Aero Repair Shop,("If We Can't Fix It, Fac It"), We lived in the old marine compound next to highway one, right across from Dogpatch. I was in RED OPS and stayed in one of the old French buildings with the "thicker" walls.
We finally got moved out over to Gunfighter Village because there weren't that many of us left. I remember I was really short, about ten days or less to go and they "involuntarily extended" us till further notice. We really got trashed that night. We ended up staying about a month and then they sent us down to Saigon sitting on aluminum cargo pallets in the back of a 130. We had to stay there for three days before we finally got to go home. Those last thirty days, we slept in the shop down on the flight line, because it was half below ground level and covered with sand bags. I'd like to know what ever happened to some of those guys that I knew over there. That was the longest year of my life.
