Major Arnold was killed in a mid-air collision (military transport craft - active duty) over Drennan, Colorado in 1974. I still have audio recordings made from Vietnam and some surviving film footage of the Da Nang base (which is where the date range estimate above comes from). Was on the base during the Tet attacks. Awarded Bronze Star and DFC for service while in Vietnam. May he rest in peace.

But we were able to put more Phantom "Mig Killers" in the air than any other forward tactical fighter base in RVN during that period...with impressive results.

Unit:   620tcs Monkey mountain Tropo site Army Dates Served:   Nov.1970-71 Location:   Monkey mountain Comments:   I watched alot of rockets hit DaNang during my hitch on Monkey Mountain. Also I was right in the middle of several others while working at the mirco-wave station next to airbase down in DaNang.One night 13 rockets hit our site. That was out of the 21 that was fired. Some people my say DaNang was pretty peacefull. Let them have a 122 hit next to them and see how they like it.! I was looking for a picture of the tropo site on Monkey mountain as it is today. MSgt Edwin L. McPherson Sr. He was with the 366th in Da Nang for either 2 or 3 tours between (?)1969 & 1972. AS I recall, he worked with the section that handled Personal Survival Equipment for the Fox 4 pilots and I think he managed the officer's club on the side. I was stationed about 5 miles from him for 15 months at Marble Mountain. I did two tours as a doorgunner with the 282nd Assault Helicopter Company (Army), Blackcats/Alleycats. Dad passed away after retiring from the Air Force in the mid 80's. Looking for anyone that may have known/served with him. He retired from Tyndall AFB, Panama City, Fla.

It was at that point I knew everyone at Danang was insane.

Miss all the guys (Jimmy Dean, Daryl Carper, Tom Rodko, Steve Jantz, Wayne Bagwell) and the memories. Thank God for the Viet Nam Dog Handlers Association. I've been able to hook up with a couple of handlers I hadn't seen since I left Da Nang.
