I was right across the street, leaning against a wall in the NCO Club, waiting for my cheeseburger. Had just finished my shift and was looking forward to chow and some sack time. Some of the guys in that barracks never saw another sun rise. I can still see the flames, the crowd in the street, and smoke pouring out of a hole in the roof. |

Enjoyed looking over the photos on the website. I have many very similar photographs of Danang AB. I was also there when the EC-121 crashed on the flightline and took some photos of that and many other notable events.. like rocket attack results. The website and especially the photos brought back a lot of old memories. I haven't looked at my old slides and photos in probably 15 years. I came to Danang from the 33rd TFW at Eglin with the first wave of F4E's. Like almost everyone else I was happy to have served and even happier to get the hell out of there. But once a GunFighter always a GunFighter.... and I'd go again given half a chance. |

Name: Bob Kuzmicki Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Pittsburgh PA, now Rochester NY Time: 1999-08-25 23:21:39 Comments: Don, thank you for creating this site. Viewing your pictures has brought back a flood of memories. Some are good and some are not. I was in DaNang from July 69 to July 70 with the 366th AMS across the street from the FMS Jet Propulsion Branch. I worked as an ECM repairman on the Phantoms. I remember when a rocket hit barracks 933 behind the Airmans Club on August 22, killing a short-timer. I also remember the Navy EC-121 crash on March 16 of 1970 that narrowly missed the Power Plant! Twenty two men were lost in that crash. I remember the "mosquito flicks" before the theater was built and so much more triggered by seeing your pages. This is a great way to remember and share our memories, our times. I wish others only understood how important a part WE ALL played, not just the guys in the bush. |

The outfit moved operations to Phan Rang in Aug '67. We hauled everything under the sun in and out of all the bases in the " I" Core area we could land at and kicked things off the loading ramp at low altitude where we couldn't get in. Great job, would like to see that country one of these days, (provided there is no shooting going on) Would like to hear from others who were there during Tet '67 ! |

First day on the job was Christmas Day. Anyone remember the F-4 flying around with 2 SUU-23s on the outboards during the '73 Spring Offensive? That was my baby! Moved to Takhli and then Udorn where the 366 TFW went (on paper) to Mountain Home and the planes were absorbed by the 432 TRW and all the flightline crew chiefs became part of the monolith 432 OMS. Yeech! I'll never forget the morning at Udorn when I got out to the flightline and noticed that all our plane's shark teeth had been painted over during the night. Smooth move 432 TRW! I didn't recognize my jets. |

They had a good chow hall over there, at least I thought it was pretty good after being at the TASS Forward Operating Locations, Army food. Funny what one remembers after so many years and what you can't remember, like names. In country from June of 71 to July of 72, part of the Nixon troop withdrawl and was extended to Taklie for 45 days. Worked pre-load there because they didn't know what to do with us and they didn't have any O-2s or OV-10s. |

I was with the 20th TASS on O-1 and O-2 Bird dogs. I volunteered for duty with the Army on my days off. I was at Hamburger Hill may 1969 for 3 Days. I was on KP at DaNang when they landed on the moon at about 0300 hours DaNang time. Also big fire fight that day and discovered largest CACH of enemy weapons and rockets buried under DaNang. I flew every chance I got. I saw what most mechanics only thought about. I even remember when the Marines blew up the ammo-dump in April 1969. Still have some pictures, I think. Over 1000 local homes were distroyed. Monkey Mountain was also tore up pretty bad. This site is very enjoyable, thanks for bringing it to my attention "Don Bach". |

Name: Brian P. Hodson Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Massachusetts Time: 1998-10-19 04:46:41 Comments: I served with the 366 Supply Squadron from July 22, 1967 until July 22, 1968. I was in NORS control and worked for Sgt. Yancey. I would like to hear from anybody who was in this outfit at any time--before or after my tour. I remember Sgt. Manchester, Sgt. Hauser, Sgt.C. W. Evans, Sgt James O'Neill and A1CFarmer and A3C Kelly . I can't remember all the names of the other dudes who were there. I remember Tet vividly and the ROK's and the mountains of silver caskets and the rockets and when they armed all the airmen with M16's so we could at least protect ourselves if we got overrun. I remember Deep Water Pier, and Monkey Mountain, and Marble Mountain and China Beach and the White Mice and the Quanh Canh, and Dog Patch and Hanoi Hannah and little kids who never seemed to wear underpants and fishheads and rice and the constant sound of jets taking off. The NCO club and Korean girl bands singing "We've Gotta Get Out Of this Place If It's The Last thing We Ever Do". "Clear your weapon before entering" signs. Marines who always seemed to be Orange with dried mud. AWOL Marines living with us in our barracks. Sgt. Bailey. Cobras and Dong and Piastres and No. 1 and Di Di Mau and slot machines and race riots and Christmas 1967 and getting drunk in the Snakepit. Vung Tau and Round Eyes. Incoming and SHORT ! and Colonel McCaskill the DCM and Sgt. Bonetti. Bunkers. Free beer and blindfolded VC prisoners with ropes fron one neck to the next neck to the next neck etc. as they were squatting down. The German Shepards and Puff and Snoopy and flares on little parachutes and M14's and M79 grenade launchers. Elephants and Marine tanks and the 1st Cav and the 101st and Hue. I remembr the F4B's F4C's F4D's, the F105's the A1E's HH53E, O1A's O2C's the Hueys the LOACH's, the C130's the C141's the Caribou's Anyway, I made it home in one piece, although my nerves were kind of shot for about a year. It took me a long time to realize this though. Out. Sgt. Brian P. Hodson, 366th Supply Squadron. |
