Also let the guys know that if anyone has Diabetes, Type II, Adult, they are due compensation from the VA.  A diagnosis is all that is necessary.  If medication is needed, how much medication, or needle injections.  Also any amputation.  If there are any side affects such as Heart problems or Stroke, this will have a further effect as to the amount of compensation.  Thanks.  Danny      e-mail   liberty@northnet.org

Hey Gordy

This is not really a war story but something I think all should be made aware of. After running up a $150,000 bill at a local hospital I found out that you don't have to have served 20 or more years in service to be eligible for VA benefits. Anyone serving in the military for any length of time may be due benefits.  If it's a service connected problem you may be eligible at 100%. If for some other reason please register with your local VA office and you may be surprised at what you are due from the VA. It is something the military does not tell you when you are discharged. They make it seem as if you must serve at least 20 years to be due any VA benefits. This is not true. Even if you are due only 10% or 20% it's something you have earned and you should avail yourself of anything due.

I have contacted my congressman and everyone else should do the same. Everyone should be made aware, at the time of discharge, that they may be eligible for benefits and given written directions as to the procedure for applying.

I'll climb down off my soapbox for now.

I am sorry to let you know that ̉DonÓ passed away from a heart attack on 7 October, 2002 while on a business trip in the UK. He is survived by his wife and two children.

I talked to his wife yesterday (24 May, 2003) and she said that she wanted to apologize to everyone for not following up on his web site and letting people know of his passing. She will have someone take over the site and respond to all of the e-mails. She will then have a small tribute with a photograph of Don and will post it on this web site.

Thank you.
