Where Did You Work?:
Load crew for the F4C,D,and E fighter (46250)
Date:
03/21/04

Comments:

Hey fellow, "Gunfighters!" Where the hell have you been? This is a great site to get reconnected with old friends and past stories about "Rocket City." I was assigned to a load crew and worked the flightline the whole year that I was at DaNang. Yes, I remember G**dammit, do you remember F***it? Tripod? Poor dog, lost a leg to a 122mm....I remember those rocket attacks! Scary! I've got some great photo's of DaNang AB and would like to share them with you. Some photo's are of fellow 46250's and some maybe you. I was known as "Willie" and usually hung-out with Al Lopez, the crazy Hawaiian, and Richard Norris. Do you know where they are at? After returning to the states, I was assigned to SAC at March AFB. After a year in country at DaNang, and after 58 days in Riverside, I was sent TDY to Anderson AFB, Guam, to continue the bombing of North Vietnam. I think the operation was known as "Linebacker" where the Air Force would bomb the crap out of the North Vietnamese to bring them to the peace table....well, you know what happened with that...After 6 months TDY, I returned to March AFB where I separated in May 1974. I now live in San Diego....I hope to hear from any of you fellow "Gunfighters." Have a memorable Veteran's Day and God Bless all of you! William "Willie" Flores

This is a great sight. I just happened to stumble on to it. Rarely does a day go by when I don't think about 'Nam and the guy's I worked with. I am ashamed to say though that over the years I've forgotten a lot of names but not the faces. I'd like to hear from anyone who I served with, especially the guys I went thru Lowry with and on to Danang.

Where Did You Work?:
Not in the Vet War, but 30 years in USAF Ammo
Date:
03/21/04

Comments:

Great site, I was a hippie Army brat in the 60-70's. My Dad was in the Army (enlisted and than commissioned as an active reserve officer). I had AAA maps to Canada in my ’66 Mustang’s glove box, a marijuana leaf in my back shield window and a “Support our Boys in Canada” bumper sticker... Until my Dad followed me to a service station one day, pulled me over and beat my ass). Yes, I was against the war and anti-military/government (the first time I could vote, I voted for McGovern). I suppose I was more anti-Dad than anything else, as I hadn’t hardly seen him within the past four years and we were being treated like Vietcong by our neighbors (bullet holes in our car and home windows… (I still am scared and hate Halloween…). Dad did two tours in Vietnam, one in Thailand and another in Cambodia (we lived in an old Nikie Missile Site housing area in Bedford, Massachusetts, went through pour hell for a year in Littleton, MA and even sat through one tour in Okinawa (USA)pretending he was there… Not). My Dad died on active duty at Ft Rucker, AL, only three months before being forced to retire (only able to do 10 years as an active reserve office). I recall, in Ft Rucker, setting at the post parade grounds during a retreat, playing the Jimmy Hendrick’s version of the Star Spangle Banner with some of my friends. Of course the MP’s came over to hassle us, but because all were all field grade officers and above brats, we were let go (they should of held us and called our parents). After my Dad passed away in ‘71, I did a 180 and joined the Air Force in ’73 (he most have turned over in his grave). I had orders to Thailand as an Ammo troop, but they got cancelled and I ended up at Homestead AFB, FL (frozen for an overseas assignment…). In anycase, I just retired after 30 years in ammo and I’m about to go into civil service as a GS-9 Ammo troop. Bottom Line: Sorry for being so unappreciative in my early years, I NOW SURELY RESPECT AND HONOR THOSE OF YOU THAT WENT THROUGH THE VET WAR! Dad was once my personal enemy and now is one of my heroes, as you are all now! John Rivard

I got this site through an Ammo site. My dad, MSgt Charles E. "Ed" Campbell was at Da Nang in 70 to Feb 71. Prior to that he was at Bien Hoa before being transferred to the 366th. He was NCOIC of Inspection at Da Nang and was given the nickname Spiderman. After Da Nang he PCS'd '71 to RAF Upper Heyford, UK where he made E-8, retiring there in Dec,'72 due to medical problems. He passsed away in March '95. I still have the "Gun Fighters" patch and a glass from the NCO club there at Da Nang that he brought back. Tim Campbell Retired Ammo

I linked to your site from the 366 TFW Guest book where you have an entry. I was very disturbed by an entry I see on your site. "DONALD "DON" R. BACH 1950 - 2002" I hate to ask because I have been going to the 366 TFW page for what seems forever. He did such a service to all of us who were there. I feel like I have lost a brother.. Do you have any personal info on Don. I would like to send a card to his family to express my sorrow and appreciation for what he has done for so many. Charles W. Clark cwclark@ashland.com or cwclark@uky.edu Please respond either way. Thanks Charlie

Bomp Dump
Date:
03/21/04

Comments:

I arrived the day the bomb dump blew. Got sent to Korea TDY for a month, came back and drove loads of munitions from the bomb dump to the base facility, spent lots of time on the RT forklifts, worked a few months with EOD hauling stuff from the dump for disposal. I don't remember Bruce Taylor but I do remember several of the guys in his photos especially the one throwing the horse shoe because that is me. I have several photos to submit but no time right now.
