I worked on many planes while in DaNang but mostly on F4 Phantoms. I remember the rocket attack on July 5th 1971 very well. I was only in country not quite 2 weeks and I found out how close those rockets could get! I was only one barracks away and that was too close. From that day on until I left I worked nights (6pm-6am). I wanted to be awake when they started lobbing them in.

I lived in a hootch with Enricque Hernandez. Guys just don't remember lots more. I was there when an A6E Collided with a C141 on Da-Nangs Run way. Also there during first 140mm rocket attack. First time they were used in the way.

It was blamed on a pilot from 480 TFS Gunfighters. I believe it was hostile not friendly fire and am writing a book about it.
